I am the drummer in a band called The Faces Of Sarah My reason for posting is because the Lead Vocalist is the son of Buster Miekle and we would like him to know how brilliant we are. Also if you have any contact info regarding Russ Ballard as Nick Shultz also knew him when he was younger but did not actually realise whom he was until recently. www.thefacesofsarah.co.uk

In or about 1954, two friends and I went to the Dickie Valentine Fan Club gathering at the Royal Albert Hall. Dickie's baby was about 10 months old, and he brought her onstage, to a silent auditorium. It was a moment I will never forget. Incidentally, those two friends and I are still in contact. Are there any Dickie Valentine cd's available anywhere?

Not looking for a specific record this time, I had an e-mail yesterday saying that Chris Curtis (ex Searchers drummer)had died a couple of weeks ago. I hadn't seen anything in the UK papers, I know it's almost 40 years since he left the group but he was an important factor in the their success. Sad news and quite a shock!

I was just curious to know if Gary Miller was remembered. I actually met him...we all used to live in Hampstead in the early 50's...he had twin boys whose names now escape me. I used to live in the North Star in Finchley Road. My surname then, was McGown. Good to know he has a profile on the web. He was a really nice guy as well as a very good singer.

I met Russ Hamilton in person at the Webbington, Somerset in the '60's. He wanted to buy my necklace of a lovers' knot but I wouldn't part with it. His pianist was named Doug ???. Doug and I both worked at Pontin's Brean Sands.

I have a rather extensive HENDRIX LP collection of 84; I know. Someone out there has more. Hendrix is certainly my hero. However, I do like a lot of other music, especially Tommy Steele and also The Tornados. I have been after a copy of the album of the Tommy Steele film "It's All Happening" for years, if there is one out there. I would love to get the tracks by Dick Kallman and Johnny De Little from the same film. If anyone can help I'm obviously willing to pay or maybe trade something I have.

This brought back so many happy memories of growing up in the fifties & sixties. I was weaned on Connie Francis, Pat Boone & Ronnie Hilton to name but a few. Then Bill Haley came along and music wasn't the same again. I still hanker for the days of 'Six Five Special & 'Oh Boy'. Thanks for a trip down mwemory lane. I shall visit again. As a matter of interest we have Alvin Stardust & Vince Eager appearing in the pantomime in Hull at the moment.

The last months I noticed that there's a worldwide interest in the Party Pops series by Russ Conway. I truly wonder why all these 45's and ep's have up to now not been released on cd, except for a few tracks here and there. I grew up listening to Russ Conway and I like to know if there's a way to convince the Conway record company (EMI?) to release the Party Pops series on cd.

It was great to be a young man in the fifties. We used to go to the Ilford Palais where I first saw Kathy, it was love at first sight. I never actually met her but did meet her mum at a later time.Us lads went to all the jazz clubs and pubs. I saw Kathy years later at a Luton club where she was given a very bad time by the audience she finished up in hospital after that. I tried to contact the hospital to give her some flowers but was fobbed off. I have just been given her CD "The very best of Kathy Kirby". Wonderful.

I think I actually met Tommy when he was working as a steward on board ship. This was before he became successful, and if I am right it was aboard a ferry operated by the Isle of Man Steampacket Company. The time was the summer of 1954 I think when I was on a day trip from Belfast to the isle of Rothesay in Scotland. Could you possibly confirm this?

Looking at this website was a great nostalgia trip. I was paricularly interested in the stuff about Love Me Do by the Beatles (1962). My mate was a big fan of theirs before their rise to fame, and dragged me to see them at lunchtime sessions at the Cavern to see them, despite my protestations that they'd never get anywhere. He took along his copy of the single (which Bob Wooler, the Cavern's resident DJ, announced had just reached No. 47 in the Top 50) and got it autographed by the group. I asked him recently if he still had this record, which would be quite valuable now, but he said no, he'd lost it! (This guy also once minded Ringo Starr's drums for him.)

In doing this I would like to see if I could get hold of any old posters, programmes that may have been in circulation as the ballroom was one of Trentham's biggest attractions. Joe Loss, Ted Heath the Rolling Stones, The Beatles and many more used to play at the famous dancehall at Trentham therefore I was wondering could you help me or put me into contact with anyone who may be able to. I noticed in your obscure artists list under 'C' you listed 'The Chicks'. You're right. Tehy're not from Britain or the U.S. They were a girl duo from New Zealand & were popular in the latter part of the '60's when I was over there.

In 1952 at the Tower Ballroom,(possibly the theatre)in Blackpool I heard Eddie Calvert play. One of the songs he played was, I'm sure, "Midnight".The tune has haunted me ever since but I don't find it listed among his extensive repertoire. Was this a tune Eddie played or is my memory faulty. Please it isn't. Thanks.

Midnight was certainly in Eddie's stage repertoire, and issued on a 78 (DB3444), but never as far as I know- on a 45. So, of course, it isn't listed. (Webmaster)

OldiesProject audio stream on line In recent months a select group of oldies collectors has been working hard to bring on line a 24/7 non-stop audio stream playing vintage oldies from the sixties and seventies. Earlier today the stream has finally been launched. Looking beyond merely the American and European charts, the OldiesProject stream also offers its listeners original versions of famous songs, typical Radio London hits and Northern Soul classics, many of which have been long forgotten or are simply ignored by radio stations and DJ's worldwide. Without fuzz or format and devoid of all pretence, the OldiesProject has been set up for the love of music and can be found at http://www.oldiesproject.com

great site well done nice to see the lads celebrated in this way. A quick question, I notice the the ep the guys issued as the paramounts is up for sale on ebay. It is the 1964 original not the reissue from the 80's which I already have. This is one rarety I havent seen available before & I am tempted to bid but the reserve is Ł49.99. Is it worth bidding & how high should I go.

I need some help in determining value of 2 items I found today in my attic. 1. A box set of colored 45 records put out by RCA Victor, Red Seal Records entitled, Shubert Unfinished Symphony No.8 in B Minor. Performed by the Boston Symphony Orchestra and conducted by Serge Koussevitzky. There are 3 red colored 45s in this small box. 2 out of the 3 have their original sleeves. I can not locate a date anywhere on the box, records or on the information insert in the box. It does appear to be a numbered item. I located in the bottom corner of the record sleeve, (No. 21-100-90-1) The second item is another small box set of 3 red colored 45s, entitled, Jimmy Dorsey and his orchestra with Bob Eberly and Helen O'Connell. Latin American Favorites. Distributed by Decca Records for RCA Victor Red Seal Records. All 3 of these 45s have their original sleeves. If anyone can help me with learning the value of this find, I'd surely appreciate it... And yes, they are for sale! Thanks, Chris Clarke

Anyone know the current whereabouts of Garry Mills (Look for a Star, Top Teen Baby) who was a mate of mine in Croydon in 1960-61. Would love to know what he is up to these days. We used to go to the Contessa and Chalet Suisse coffee bars, along with the Sarstedt brothers

I actually joined Shane Fenton and the Fentones in 1968.This was in the so-called "Cabaret" era, we did however, have a completely different show when we did "Rock" gigs,we also had a small part in the film "Some Girls Do" released by the Rank Organisation in`69 The line-up of the group then was.......... Shane Fenton.Vocals and sometimes Rythm Guitar Gerry(Jack) Wilcox..(ex lead with original Fentones)..Bass Guitar Keith Leatherbarrow..Lead Guitar. Mike Easthope..Drums Both Keith and Mike were from Liverpool. I hope this info is of some use.

Great site- I loved it. It took me back to my teenage years. What a wealth of talent there was. I didn't appreciate it so much then as I do now. If I could improve the site it would be to have a complete alphabetical list of all the artists as it can be quite tedious having to click on the individual letters to search. This would be in addition to the system already in place.

I am a great fan of David Whitfield. I have lots of television shows of David Whitfield on video and also radio broadcasts of David on the radio singing live and other television shows of other 1950s stars on television: Dorothy Squires, Ronnie Hilton, the Beverley Sisters etc. I would like to have some more recordings of appearences by David Whitfield on television- especially Sunday Night at the London Palladium. He appeared on the Palladium television shows lots of times.

I was born in Sunderland and I know your first big gig was at the Empire. I was your tea girl at the Tivoli in Sydney in 1960. I brought my family to see when you came back to sydney and played at the Capitol along with your dinner I bought you in 1960. Hope you remember me, I was in England in 2003 and would have loved to see you but was not in England long enough. Sorry about the news of your divorce, Im still waiting. It would be great to hear from you after all these years if you remember me. Well Tommy, take care and hope to hear from you soon. Take Care. Hope you are still in the business.

When searching for an artist on e.g. Google, you get sometimes the most crazy people, who have nothing to do with the artist at all of the same name, here you'll find it nice and easy all together. Also a great thing is, that there are now photographs included. Marion Ryan, had one hit earlier in the U.K., and that is the song "Why do fools fall in love/Hot diggity" in 1956, on Pye Nixa nr. N-15058 (78 rpm only)

I ran the Overlanders fan club for a short while. I met them in person when they appeared at St Helens (before the release of "Michelle") Watched the show , they then took me for a meal and arranged a Hotel for me before taking me back to liverpool the following day. My friend and I also stayed overnight in London as guests of their manager and his wife. They were all lovely people and so friendly. Certainly deserved more than their only hit record. I would love to know what became of them as due to my being a student nurse at the time I had to give up the fan club

Great to see all those names of my other favourite songs from my early teens - and before! Ref Sounds Inc - I have just found a photo taken with them at a gig they did in Torquay in 1963, just before signing with Brian Epstein. Does anyone know what they are doing now? I saw Tony Newman drumming for the Everly Bros on their UK tour 7 years ago but not heard of the others.

Fun site! Thank you very LARGE! Would love to find a photo of The Honeycombs as I thought, in 1964 when their biggest (and only) hit "Have I The Right" charted in the U.S., it was terrific that the group had a girl drummer, and I still think that's so cool. "Have I The Right" was, and is, a terrific, driving recording. Since the band still plays I'd love to see and hear them if ever I should get once again to London.

Russ Hamilton was extremely popular in the East in the late 50s. A Compilation Lp and then Cd were released by EMI in the 70s. I have quite a good collection of his 45s. I had the EP you mentioned but was stolen when I took it to Sydney. I have met Russ a few years ago and still keep in close touch with him. An extremely nice man now living in Wales. I am now looking high and low for "Paper Roses" by Lola Dee (1955) and "When Rock n rol comes to Trinidad" by Nat King Cole on CD.

Seeking Bob Renny - Bob played bass with Lonnie Donegan's band during the 90s and we are trying to locate him for a school reunion. He was last heard of somewhere in East London. Any info appreciated. Colin Peck

On the back is pictured his torso wearing a belt & the words - 'the man' & 'who's got the lot'. Has anyone got any information about this album or do they know the year. thanks Gillian

The only Tommy Steele movie I was fortunate enough to see was "The Dream Maker." I thoroughly enjoyed it, especially a song in there whose title I do not know, or if it was ever charted. It was the scene where a young man is in the recording booth not long after the movie starts. One line of the song contained words something like "the wind and the rain." In the movie, the man went by the name of Johnny DeLittle. Any chance of getting that song downloaded? I surely did enjoy it!

I came here in 1962 - but I am always proud to say "Tommy Steele" lived down the road to me. I lived in Jamaica Road, went to Southwark Park School and then Walworth Comprehensive off of Old Kent Road. You were always one of my favourite entertainers, but since coming here I have not been able to keep up with you. Hopefully on my next visit I can see your latest show. Keep up the good work.

For the benefit of puzzled UK visitors; I think the Johnny Duncan referred to here is a country singer from Texas who is almost unknown on this side of the Atlantic - though sometimes confused with Johnny Duncan (from Tennessee) who has a biography on this web site. The latter Johnny Duncan (and the Blue Grass Boys) were well known in the UK in the late 1950s - Webmaster

If anyone EVER comes across any 'home recorded' records, 45s AND 33s (heavy vinyl with METALLIC edging) with the name EILEEN WEST please please contact me. They were stolen in 1986 and include Eileen (my mother) singing 'she was a gyspsy maiden'. I think they went with other stolen items to Kent but they could be ANYWHERE now, assuming they haven't been destroyed. MANY thanks.

I have a Fleetwood Mac 45 - Reprise label - the label on both sides of the record are the same - They are both the 'B' side. The record is Oh Well (Part 2) - This is printed on both sides - The record number on both sides reads the same - RS 27000-B - As I understand it, it is meant to be Part 1 and part 2. - Does anyone know anything about this error on this label? - I am looking to auction the record on eBay. Would be grateful for some help. Thanx.

I have found an interesting 45 vinyl in a charity shop. It is a recording of two girls/ladies laughing, talking and singing. It sounds like a home recording of some sort. On the vinyl are the the words 'Calibre' and 'Auto-recordings' and 'made in england'. there is no date on the vinyl or artist. In other words, i cannot identify where this vinyl is from or when it was made or who is recorded on it. Can anyone tell me about 'Calibre' or 'auto-recordings' ? Thank you very much, it would be appreciated as i have search the internet and found no answers so far.

Tryin to get in touch with old shool mates. Went to Acton County 51-56, when Giles, then Kibblewhite were headmaster. I remember Mrs Holman, the music teacher, it was her job to play for the hymn at assembly each morning - unfortunately she couldn't play. Leaving school before 'Who' went there I don't remember knowing them. On leaving shool I was a founder member of the Rebel Rousers with Cliff Bennett, playing with them for about 2-3 years. Anyone wanna swap reminisces?

Hi again Reg, Thanks once again for the great DELICATES web page.As you know, they were due their rightful recognition for SO LONG and now, thanks to you,and a couple others, they ARE FINALLY receiving credit for their contributions to the late 50's and early 60's music scene, and AS YOU KNOW, DENISE IS STILL ONE OF THE NICEST PEOPLE IN THE MUSIC BUSINESS and STILL sincerely appreciates her fans! Also,I found a Bernadette 45 that isn't listed in the discography. "HEAVENLY"/"PRETTY BERNADETTE" (Cleopatra 5) Note the B Side is an instrumental by the Rhythm Ramblers. If you'd like a scan of it I could TRY to send you one. Unfortunately,I am not too good at that stuff. Thanks once again,Reg Sincerely, Wes Smith(A dedicated DELICATES fan FOREVER)

Like many other contributors I have compiled a very comprehensive collection of 1960s releases on CDs and vinyl. However, I'm amazed at how many good records of the day are almost impossible to obtain, there almost seems to be a standard list now of "compilations". Every now and then you might spot what looks like a good buy but it turns out to be re-recorded stuff. Anybody aware of any original Richard Anthony material on the market? or Mojos, Marauders, Unit 4+2, Big Three, and many more "two hit wonder" type groups. Thanks for all the input re my book, still struggling to pull it all together in a good structure. Happy 2004to anyone who reads this.

I'm looking for a very good conditioned copy of "I'm Just A Baby" by Louise Cordet {Decca, F 11476}, which was her only hit single {1962}. If you have a copy and wouldn't mind parting with it I would feel very appreciative. Incidentally, I have had poor feedback on two sixties hit singles: "Sue's Gonna Be Mine" from Del Shannon {London, HLU 9800} and "Help Me, Girl" by Eric Burdon {Decca, F 12502}. Both were hits in 1963 and 1966, respectively. If you can help, again, I will feel extremely appreciative. "Hi there, Reg! Hope you are well, ok?" Wishing you all well and keep the vinyl alive! Great info on THE DAVE CLARK FIVE, and HERMAN'S HERMITS. How about doing something on MIKE SMITH (DAVE CLARK FIVE LEAD SINGER). He toured the USA about 4 times in the summer of 2003 with his ROCK ENGINE BAND. They got rave reviews. He unfortunately, suffered a broken neck in a fall at his home in SPAIN about 3 months ago. He's been in a hospital ICU ever since. He's currently in a London rehab hospital. He's paralized below the waist, but he's regaining movement in his arms. Check out his message board at http://www.voy.com/14321/.

Why did you not list all the hit records we had? By the way I am the Alan Whitehead that played with Marmalade from 1967 till 1978. The boys are still on the road although only Graham Knight is an original. I went to see them play last year in the CALL UP THE GROUPS TOUR. Have to say they are still sounding good Old rock n rollers never die...

I actually came to the site as I program an internet station with music from the 50s, 60s and 70s. Someone gave me an mp3 they made with Eddie Reeves. I didn't find any information on allmusic.com, so I did a search and came up with your site! I pride myself on putting the correct date and album or single info on each song in the 2500+ playlist, so you helped me quite a bit! Greetings all! I'm more than pleased you included Louise Cordet in here along with her 1962 hit "I'm Just A Baby"; I still own a pretty neat copy of that original. I thought Louise was total sex on legs! Who played the bass on that hit? I'm trying to track down two singles which I bought when they originally came out. However, I gave them to pals when having a clearout {stupid boy!!}. {1} "Sue's Gonna Be Mine" Del Shannon {London, HLU 9800} {2} "Help Me, Girl" Eric Burdon {Decca, F 12502} The latter disc was promoted by Burdon as a solo hit and even appeared on TV pop shows 'Ready, Steady, Go!' and 'Top of the Pops' as a solo artist. Not an Animal to be seen anywhere! Some labels credit this hit on the label as being by 'Eric Burdon & the Animals', but this track, along with his solo album 'Eric Is Here', was recorded in New York. Decca F 12502 was originally going to be Burdon's version of "Mama Told Me Not To Come", but this was later relegated to album status and replaced by this "Help Me, Girl" track. Can anyone help me with these two singles, please? They can be as rough as you make them, as I merely want them for the data on each label, ok? Gosh, the current #1 hit from this date in 1964 was "Oh, Pretty Woman" by Roy Orbi {LOndon, HLU 9919}. It never seems possible that I bought that single {in triplicate} from WH Smith in Watford High Street all those years ago but I guess it must've been. Frightful how time flies, pop-pickers, agreed? I wish you all well and keep the vinyl alive! Kindest wishes.

Sadly, I've bought every "sixties mix" CD compilation that has come onto the market - and there are so many - but there are now rarely any new tracks to get. I'm particularly looking for "Something Better Beginning" by the Honeycombs, or "Seventh Son" by Georgie Fame. It's a shame that with so much good stuff from that era there's so little of it still available.

I saw the comment about Pete McClaine & The Clan. I'm researching for a book on UK groups 1963 to 67 in East Lancashire and then 67 to 69 in Bristol. Lots of input so far from Raging Storms, Electrons, Avalons, Ivan D Juniors, Invaders, Kris Ryan & The Questions, Mavericks and a couple of others. Anyone who has any detail specifically about Burnley/Blackburn area 63 to 67 and Bristol 67 to 69 feel free to e-mail me. Very impressed with the detail on this site, someone has in-depth and accurate detail which isn't available on other similar site. Excellent stuff!

Today I felt like Indiana Jones. For years I've been a right anorak about "Yes I do" by Pete Maclaine and The Clan, whom I recall seeing on Thank Your Luck Stars in 1963. The record never charted, and nobody else has ever heard of it, or the group. My heart nearly jumped out of my chest when I discovered them again on your website. Thanks a bunch. I love this site. The 'obscure discographies' are simply amazing.

I read a review on oldies and someone mentioned the he recently met Russ Hamilton in Wales. I have been looking for his music for 25 years. I especially would like to know where I can find 'little on' he sang this in 1958. Any idea where to find this or contact him?

When I emigrated to the U.S. 16 years ago I brought my record collection with (echo of my youth) 1959-65. The other day someone mentioned old records now are being collected, so I took a look. I'm suprised by how many rare collectable 45's I've got.

I am looking for a recording of the Berard Miles record. I had a tape of it many years ago and am looking to try and listen to it again.
