I have a question which I can't solve myself. In the early 90's I used to buy a 45 RPM record every week. I'm 23 years old so it didn't take long before the CD was invented. Sometimes I spend a day listening all these records again. The last time that I was listening again somebody asked me this terrible question and it's keeping me busy several weeks now. How is the little piece of black plastic called, which must be placed in the center of a record player to make the 45 rpm records fit? Does it have a name? I thought this could be the place to find an answer to my question!!! You can send me a mail if you want. No problem. Thanks in advance!

I was the drummer with Birkenhead's "The Pathfinders", see listing. In 1964 we appeared on "Ready,Steady, Win!",the show was taped but was never shown in the Granada area, so we never got to see it. It's a very long shot but if anyone out there's got it or can point me in the right direction, I'd be very grateful. Also any memorabilia or photos as I'm compiling a history of the band.

Is Kenny, or any of his fans aware of the reggae version of, ' Movin Away '. It was a big hit for Ken Booth and is widely regarded as a Jamaican classic. I would also like to say that as a comedian myself and someone who has grown up and still lives not a bricks throw from Kennys birthplace;RESPECT. I remember you very well on tv as I grew up. You were always funnier than that scouser.

A great site. I am reminiscing like the clappers at the moment. Thanks for putting all the effort in to the site. As an aging 54 year old prog. rocker (Genesis, Pink FLoyd etc), I still love all the oldies that were my youth. I once saw Lonnie Donegan in pantomine at the Finsbury Park Empire. After the panto, he and his group played their songs. Magnificent talent he had. I remember about 10 years ago, stars were asked who influenced the most, the following said Lonnie: Elton John, Eric Clapton, Jimmie Page to name three! I don't know why I chose the Calvin James' song, I have always liked it and have never heard from him again. I remember 'somethings You Never Get Used To' was out when Jackie Trent's 'Where Are You Know' was number One in 1965 I think. I heard Cilla sing it about a year ago on Sound of the 60's. Take care and thanks once again.

I've had a few requests played on Sounds of the Sixties over the past 12 months but sent in one about three months ago for the 'other' version of Hi Ho Silver Lining, by the Attack. SOTS couldn't find it and I was wondering if I had been dreaming, although Radio Caroline North plugged it incessantly instead of Beck's version. However, I've today discovered your site and found it was issued on Decca F 12578. Very interesting site!

I love all the usual suspects (Stones/Supremes/Beach Boys etc) plus all the rarities e.g. by Linda Thorson of the Avengers or joint efforts between top names like - say - Jimi Hendrix/Janis Joplin/Jim Morrison, though I'm sure if it existed that'll be the holy grail of vinyl!Naturally I enjoy Sounds of the Sixties every Saturday morning on Radio 2, listening since "Wild One" by Martha & the Vandellas caught my attention, followed by Nirvana's "Rainbow Chaser"; may I also recommend it's evening companion, Mark Lamarr's Alternative Sixties, whose best instalment to date featured Motown, Ska, Latino, Reggae and Northern Soul covers of Beatles songs.Sixties soundalikes anyone? The good few I've heard over the past decade or so have been much inspired: "Sowing the Seeds of Love" by Tears for Fears echoes Sgt Pepper, but the wealth of others about include "One Horse Town" by The Thrills, "Chicken Payback" from Bees, and what sounded like Dusty Springfield c.1969/70 turned out to be Swing Out Sister's return single "Love Won't Let You Down". In fact, there are enough of these to make a 90-minute, one-off show called Sounds LIKE the 60s. What do you reckon?AlexOdam@hotmail.com

JImmy Young style of broadcasting is sadly missed his best days ever were when David Hamilton,Terry Wogan & Jimmy Young were all on in sequence. It made radio 2 what it is. Like Alister Cook with Ltter from America, Jimmy Young should have been allowed to go on and on. I hope he is enjoying his retirement but he can always make a comeback and make millions of listeners happy again!
